Very good, thank you ... but now what?
Normally I don't discuss current affairs on my blog.
Way too serious when there are plenty of stories in the world that amuse us and humour we need in times like these.
Nonetheless, I do believe that we all watched history unfold yesterday.
The first African American president of the USA being sworn in was a historic moment. Obama now not only faces the massive burden of history on him, the expectations that come with it, but also a a world in economic and political turmoil.
A global financial crisis that is costing hundreds of thousands of jobs and more to come, an escalated war in the Middle East, and two other wars that America has started.
In his speech Obama spoke of all these challenges, emphasising that we are not only aware of them, but that we should not and will not shy away from them.
I consciously say "we" because in today's world, these challenges are global and affect everyone.
We all have our bit to do to contribute to rise to those challenges. More importantly though, the "we" includes all people irrespective of race, religion or gender.
We're all in the same boat and we all will have to if not overcome completely, but at least lessen hatred, poverty and misery together.
And I firmly believe, yes we can.
Thank God It's Over Soon!
But what about the comedy value of Bush-isms?
Here's a selection that will definitely make you chuckle. But remember that this (soon) will have been the most powerful man in the world.
What a scary idea, especially if you remember the mess he's left behind.
Of course the question is whether the new president is going to be any better. Just because he's more eloquent doesn't necessarily mean that his policies are going to be much better.
Time will tell and 9 is a lucky number!
