Forbid Love?
I'm not a big fan of the commercialisation of various holidays.
And Valentine's day is probably the biggest commercialisation of them all, so much that it's often deservedly referred to as "Hallmark Day" (although here's the actual St. Valentine story).
I believe people who love each other should show that love 365 days a year and not wait for a holiday to come around to "prove" it with flowers and chocolate.
However, forbidding Valentine's gifts and red roses because Valentine's day is deemed "un-Islamic" is just plain ridiculous.
But that's what authorities in Saudi Arabia are doing. Now it should come as no surprise from a country that throws rape victims into jail because they committed adultery in their interpretation of Islam.
Still, forbidding the demonstration of love shared between two people, that just shows how crazy the quest living religiously has gone.
Doesn't religion claim to cherish love?
Just for that we should all send red roses to Saudi Arabia!
